Vancouver, British Columbia Canada, February 12th 2009. NatureStockPhotography.ca opens its doors and launches its full e-commerce stock photography website. You can purchase any photo for $5 for web or personal use over the internet. Users can contact the photographer (Damon West) for further information regarding exclusive rights to photos. Some of the categories offered on the website are Lanscapes, Sunsets, Rises, Moons, Wildlife, Flowers and various others. Each category is broken down by location or sets of animals to mention a few.

Nature Stock Photography offers free previews of all photos and does not require registration until you are ready to purchase. There are over 800+ photos and growing.

Just a photo here and there turned into a hobby and a love for photography. I shot alot on film then decided to make the switch to digital. The cost of developing reels was expensive, and now the quality of the 10 megapixel+ market, the swap was a must.

Most of my photo's are shot with a Canon Rebel XTI DSLR 10.1 megapixel and a Canon 50D 15.1 megapixel , but i try and carry a camera with me at all times so i have a pocket Kodak CX 730 4 megapixel and a Sony DSC T100 , 8.1 megapixel.

Photography opens up a whole new aspect on seeing things, whether it's from the smallest insect or flower to the most grandest of landscapes , your eyes are always open and looking for the perfect picture.

Wedding photography videography has been an important part of the wedding market for several years. Many couples are eager to have the entire event captured on DVD. Couples often express that they have very little memory of their wedding day, since they were both nervous and quite busy, and the video record provides them with a great look at what actually transpired.

Sometimes you will be able to find a wedding photography studio that offers photography/videography as part of a combined package. Before you agree to such a package, make sure that the wedding photography studio you choose has experience with filming video. Some studios will simply give their apprentices camcorders and set them loose at your affair. As with static images on film, video filming requires a certain level of expertise for the best results. If you have an amateur filming your wedding, the results will show on the final film. Why take chances?

When selecting your videographer, it is very important to view examples of his or her previous work. As anyone who has taken video of a vacation or kids at play knows, wedding photography videography is not easy. It takes special talent and training to produce professional quality video. Additionally, viewing the videographer's work will give you a feel for his or her overall style as well as the elements on which the videographer chooses to focus.

Interview prospective wedding videographers just as carefully as you would potential professional wedding photographers. Presented here is a list of suggested questions. You may have additional questions based on your individual circumstances.

1. Will you be the actual videographer for my wedding?
As with photographers, some studios employ staff videographers. You want to meet with the actual person who will film your wedding. A corollary question is whether the sample video you view was recorded on the same type of equipment that will be used at your wedding.

2. How much control will I have over the elements that are included in the video?
Many couples give little thought to their wedding video, instead turning full control over to the videographer. Yet the wedding video is your living record of your carefully planned wedding day. Choose a videography professional who will work with you to help you decide which events should be covered and how the final video should be edited.

3. What type of backup equipment do you carry and how does the backup compare to the original?
Your wedding day is a one-time event. If the videographer's equipment fails, it is crucial that he or she can switch quickly and seamlessly to a backup. However, some backup equipment is older and crude by today's standards. Be sure that the backup equipment is of acceptable quality.

4. What format of equipment do you use and what is your experience level with that format?
As with photography, the digital versus film debate rages in videography as well. Both formats have their own advantages and disadvantages. Whichever format you select, be sure that the videographer is comfortable and experienced with that format.

5. What extra fees might I incur?
Discuss available packages and extras that you might need. Negotiate all fees; even those that you think will not apply such as overtime. Try to get the videographer to work certain extras into your package price. Affordable wedding photography/videography is available but you may need to enter into careful negotiations.

Wedding photography videography are the twin records of your big day. Take your time to shop around and choose the best professional wedding photographers and videographers in your budget range. You deserve nothing less on your wedding day

How much are you spending this year on marketing? Is it enough to build your business?

According to a recent survey, the answer is no. Up to 42% of companies surveyed stated they were budgeting less than 5% of revenue for their annual marketing strategies. And less than 30% were spending an adequate amount on marketing for their growth potential.

That's not a good sign for photography businesses that intend to grow to a successful size. In fact, without a sufficient budget, your business will never make your marks, and will eventually fade from existence.

With that in mind, its time to take charge of your marketing strategy, and structure it for success in the coming year. Once you have goals and strategies in place, you'll be much better prepared to budget a realistic figure.

Take a look at these three approaches to producing a usable marketing plan that fits within your budgetary means.

1. Start with the end in mind. What dollar amount do you wish to make in the coming year? Once you have a realistic number in mind, use that to determine your marketing commitment level.

The average growing company typically will spend around 10 percent of their total revenue on marketing, with very aggressive companies moving towards the 15-20 percent level. Calculating your marketing costs is a simple matter of taking your desired revenue level multiplied by the marketing percentage you wish to apply. For example, if you expect to make $100,000 in the coming year, and you wish to take an aggressive approach to marketing, you may choose to spend 15 percent, or $15,000, of your budget on marketing costs.

2. Create your campaign calendar for the year, and realistically budget for each campaign. This approach can benefit you in a number of ways. Unlike the first approach, it provides you with an exact list of campaigns you will be offering in your studio, and put together a yearlong plan that will be easy to follow.

To get started, create your yearlong calendar of campaigns. Look at the specific activities you are planning to launch, and calculate the expected income and costs associated with each activity. Determine what type of marketing you will do with each campaign, and estimate appropriately.

3. Use this year's numbers, and project the growth expected for the coming year.

Depending on how successful your studio was this year, you may wish to use this year's numbers to project next years budget. This works well if you already have a high level of success, and you anticipate doing about the same level of business in the coming year. Let's say your total revenue for this year is $100,000, and you project a 20 percent growth rate for the coming year. Your projected revenue for the coming year is expected to be at $120,000. For a 10 to 15 percent marketing budget, you can expect to spend anywhere from $12,000 to $18,000 in the coming year on marketing.

The key to each of these strategies is to give you an idea of the total marketing expenses you can expect to pay to achieve the level of success you are planning for. It can also provide you with guidelines when making decisions as to they types of marketing you're looking for. You may be able to easily rule out more expensive forms of marketing right away just by knowing your yearly budget marks ahead of time.

As a creative business owner, you may dread the budgetary process. But with a solid plan in place, your business will run much more effectively in the coming year. You and your business will thank you for it.

If you have a desire to set up your own home based photography business, just start out in with digital photography. It is not that difficult to take beautiful shots with your camera if you do it the right way. To start the business, you do need a basic camera with manual controls, and some basic office stationery. You can run your business from home. For a successful photography business you must be able to offer a variety of backgrounds to your clients.

In Indoor shooting you may pose your subject on the floor or they could be posed on and around their furniture in the living room, etc. In outdoor shooting outside portraits could be in their back yard, at the beach, a local park, etc.

Mostly people want a beautiful portrait that singles them out as individuals, whenever possible, always try for a location that has meaning for them.

You must use formal backdrops. Try to go for simple backgrounds. They are often the best. There are several types of backdrop materials:

Paper backdrop - Large rolls of paper come in most any color you can imagine. They can be purchased at many local camera stores and are relatively inexpensive.

Painted Canvas backdrop - These can provide some truly stunning portraits. Many backdrop suppliers create them and they can be ordered over the Internet if you don't happen to be near a supplier.

What background size should I use? It is the first question, which may arise in your mind. The most common backdrop sizes to choose from are 6x9, 10x12, and 10x20.

6x9 - This size is used for headshots and very small item commercial photography mostly.

10x12 - Primarily used in shooting individuals and headshots. Full lengths are possible for an individual on this size. However, you are limited in your lighting and posing due to its size.

10x20 - This is by far the most versatile backdrop size. It can be used for families, couples, weddings, bridals, commercial, and everything you would use the smaller sizes for. There may be times when you are photographing larger groups, 8 and above, when two 10’x20’s of the same or similar pattern may come in handy (Hang one horizontally and lay the other on the floor so the seam is unseen).

I think you can probably see my personal preference. 10x20s are by far the most versatile and you can use them on all types of photography. Give your client some options; take a few full-length shots, three-quarter length shots, and shots with props. They will be impressed and most likely order more than they would have ordered otherwise. I see far too many photographers limiting themselves by getting smaller backdrops; they think they are saving themselves money. Looking at the big picture, photographers need to be ready to handle the bridals and full lengths of children and large families. We should all cater to bridals and family portraiture because there is a lot of money in this avenue. Far too many studios are not equipped to handle these high profit sessions because of inadequate backdrops.

Do you have a knack for taking photographs and a love for fashion? Perhaps attending fashion photography school is something you may want to consider. Fashion photography school teaches you how to use photography to take photographs that sell everything from perfume to clothing.

Fashion photography is not as easy as it looks. Many men dream of going into this field so they can mingle with beautiful models and take photographs of them. This is not what fashion photography is about. Fashion photography is an art form. The models may be lovely, but they can only look as good as the fashion photographer makes them out to be.

There are many tricks used in fashion photography. Lighting. Wind. Shadows. We see this on television whenever we watch programs about people taking photographs of models. But what people do not realize is that the photographer is an artist. He sees the model in a certain way and photographs her to portray this image he has in his mind. It is not unlike painting a portrait. In a way, he is painting a portrait. He is just doing it with a camera.

Each of us perceives different sights in our mind. Not all of us can see what the fashion photographer can see. This is why it is so important that he or she be proficient and serious about this art form. This is not just a way to take pictures, but a way to make art. Art that does not hang on walls, but is depicted on magazine covers and billboards and on television. But it is still art, just the same.

In addition to taking the best shots of beautiful models, a fashion photographer must be mindful of props and backdrops and locations. He or she will often take advantage of different situations in nature to create the most beautiful photographs. They will use natural and artificial lighting to make the image they have in their mind come to life.

Props are often used and are very important in the work of a fashion photographer. Fashion photographers often work for advertising houses or directly for magazines that are selling a certain product. The product must be photographed in such a way that it is desirable to the viewer of he photograph. While we often think of fashion photographers as photographing models, sometimes the models are merely the props. The real image he or she is trying to convey is the pillow, or the sofa, or the draperies. He sets the scene, like an artist, and makes it appealing to view.

Of course, fashion photographers first and foremost must know quite a bit about photography. Photography in itself is an art form. They must know about cameras, lighting and equipment. They must know when to shoot in black and white and all about color. They need to know which colors will be best for the model to wear in a certain scene.

This is not a career for men who want to meet models, but an admirable profession for a serious professional who has an eye for art, loves photography and has a deep admiration for fashion. It can be a very rewarding career, both monetarily and spiritually as it truly does give one the chance to express his or her creativity. If you are the type who loves photography and fashion, consider attending fashion photography school.

Leaves are a very popular subject when it comes to autumnal photography due to their great variation in colour at this time of year. If you are creative these subjects can offer great photographic potential. Here are 5 quick tips to make sure you make the most of the autumn weather

1. Ice - As the temperature drops outside leaves invariably become frozen in puddles, these can produce great photos. You can always pour cold water on the ice to remove the crystals and give it a really clear look, conversely you can scratch the surface to add some interest. If you can’t wait for the temperature to drop you can always stick some leaves in a water filled plastic container and freeze it overnight, just remember to fill your frame when you take the shot.

2. Falling leaves - As the leaves start to fall a rich carpet of yellows and reds starts to form. To get a sense of leaves falling without having to wait for a strong gust just ask an assistant to drop some whilst you snap away. Aim for a wide aperture to blur the background and go for shutter speeds of between ½ sec and 1/30 to get a sense of motion, you may need an overcast day or a neutral density filter as with the aperture wide open at this speed you may over expose during the day.

3. Soft focus - A quick, cheap way of adding a soft focus filter to your lens is adding a clear piece of plastic to the front of the lens (Clingfilm) and breathing on it, or on your UV filter if you have one. This will add a soft ethereal feel to your shots, just remember if you are breathing on your filters to give them a good clean after.

4. Back lighting - A great way to capture the vivid autumn colours is use the sun to back light them. This works great if you can shoot with a dark, shaded background. Remember if the back ground is dark the leaves may over expose so dial in a -1 stop to compensate and keep the darks dark and correctly expose the leaves. If the background is very bright you’ll have to add +1 stop to stop the leaves under exposing.

5. Get low, go wide - To really emphasise the coloured carpets so abundant in Autumn, fit a wide angle lens and get low down, focusing on a close leaf and fill the frame with the leaves going away into the distance, open spaces such as parks are great for this.

Digital cameras are becoming more and more sophisticated. On one hand they allow high quality automatic point and shoot. On the other hand they allow full manual control of their settings. Regardless of the mode you use there are some scenes that require special care. Without such care your digital photos will be of poor quality regardless of how sophisticated and automatic your camera is.
New digital cameras include sophisticated hardware and software that allow a simple point a shoot usage and result in high quality digital photos. Such high quality digital photos are achieved in most scenarios but in some scenarios solely relying on the cameras automatic feature is not enough. In such scenes the camera hardware and software will make the wrong decision as to the optimal camera setting for the best digital photo. The result will be a poor quality photo.
Being aware of such scenarios can help in avoiding such poor quality digital photos. When you identify such a scenario you can use some simple techniques, by manually setting the camera, by changing the photo shooting angle or by manipulating the scene.
One of the common problems with automatic digital camera photo shooting is digital photos that include dark silhouettes in them. Dark Silhouettes appear when you are taking digital photos in a scene with a bright light source behind the object. An example of such a scene is when the sun is behind the object. The result will be a digital photo that includes a dark silhouette of the object. One scene that is very likely to result in such a problem is when taking a photo of someone on the beach against a sunset. The result will be a dark silhouette of the person with a good photo of the sunset in the background. Dark silhouettes are a result of the camera setting the wrong exposure. Because of the bright background the camera sets a low exposure and the object that are not lit from their front are severely underexposed.
The dark silhouettes in the digital photo can be eliminated by simply using the camera’s fill-in flash. When taking a photo with the fill-in flash turned on the flash lights the object making sure that it is captured with all its details. Use a fill-in flash when taking pictures of objects with a bright light source behind them. One limitation of this solution is that the objects must be within the flash effective range – otherwise the flash is useless and they will still appear as silhouettes in the photo.
The best way to learn how to avoid dark silhouettes in digital photos is by experimenting and practicing. Try to find scenes that will confuse the digital camera into taking dark silhouettes digital photos. Take a few digital photos using the camera automatic mode and review the results confirming the expected poor quality. Now correct the problem and take a few more photos. Review the new digital photos and make sure that indeed the dark silhouettes problem is gone. Practicing in a controlled environment will help you be prepared to quickly and efficiently handle such scenes in real time photo shooting.

Shooting flowers in the great outdoors is considered to be a pastime more than work. The relaxing feel of the outdoors in national heritage sites and parks is enjoyed by many outdoor photographers. Going on such outdoor day shoots requires some equipment especially if you’re using a digital SLR. I currently enjoy my Nikon D40, probably the most affordable digital SLR bought from Hidalgo for a mere P21, 000.00. If you want to do some flower photography, it would be a great idea to invest in a few lenses.

The cheapest lens you can get that yields great results is a 50mm prime lens with an aperture of f/1.8. A lot of photographers have dubbed this lens as the “nifty fifty” because it delivers absolutely clear photos for a price less than a hundred dollars. This lens is available for both Canon and Nikon DSLR brands with Nikon’s being slightly more expensive. The true benefit of this lens is that it takes very good portraiture, allowing your flower subject to stand out clearly while blurring the background.

If you have a little bit more money to burn I would highly recommend a macro lens. My personal lens of choice is an old inheritance - a Micro Nikon Auto f/3.5 macro lens which I’ve seen all over the Internet. It’s not being sold in stores anymore but you can probably grab one from eBay if by some twist of fate the previous owner has decided to sell.

If you’re going to go “deep” with shooting, you will definitely need a mini tripod or a monopod to deliver versatile shots. You can find pretty versatile mini tripods for less than P400.00 in some malls. But I suggest investing in more durable tripods such as the mini GorrilaPod that retails for about a thousand bucks. A monopod, on the other hand will help you get sturdy in thick situations like when inside bushes or when the area does not give you the luxury of spreading out a tripod through a wider plane.

With a variety in equipment coupled with the basics of photography, shooting flowers outdoors can be a therapeutic and rewarding experience altogether!

If you are like many, you have an interest in developing the background and skills necessary to enter the field of photography as career. And what a great career it can be. There is nothing more gratifying than creating a powerful image with your camera and a keen eye. Of course, in order to achieve your goal it is important that you get the right photographic education along with effective coaching and mentoring. With the right education, lots of hard work, and many hours of practice you will soon have the title of professional photographer.

Just like any school you will need to do your research to make sure that the photography school you select will best meet your individual needs. This article is intended to provide you several of the key areas that you should take into consideration as you begin to research good photography schools. After all it is your time and money so you owe it to yourself to make a well educated selection.

In choosing a photography school you should start by looking at the big picture. The selection of a photography school must be aligned with your specific career goals. As with any business field photography presents many opportunities in a wide range of categories. For example, you may have an interest in portrait photography, product advertising, or sports photography. At this point you may be focused more on the general aspects of photography and if so that is okay. But, if you have an area of interest it is worth your investment in time to determine the areas of specialization your short list of photography schools may have to offer. It would also be beneficial if your school of choice provides courses in general business in addition to the photography classes. This will aid you as you move from student to professional status.

I am sure you already know this but I will say it any way. Professional photography is more than point-and-shoot method for making a living. It requires an attention to detail and a wide range of skills including mathematics, business management, marketing and more. So make sure that the photography school you select can provide you the knowledge you need in the area of general business education too. Since many photographers eventually go into business on their own you will find these to be extremely valuable survival skills that will lend to your success.

It is always wise to inquire about the size of the class as well as the ratio of students to teacher. To many people in photography class can really be a hindrance toward proper learning. And it will also prohibit the instructor from providing effective hands-on supervision to each of the students.

Another skill area that should be considered is in the area of computers and you should determine if the photography school of choice provides learning in this area as well. A good photography school needs to have courses on basic computer use as well as more advance courses for those who have an interest in expanding their knowledge of digital photography as well as specialty software used for creating a digital darkroom. Since the field of photography is a very competitive it is imperative that you gain education and knowledge in this area as well.

Lastly, keep in mind that any education will have a price tag associated with it. So unless you just happen to have all of your photography education funding in hand it is worth while to determine if the schools provide scholarships or other forms of financial assistance for their students. Also keep in mind that you will more than likely need to invest in some of your own photography equipment. So I would recommend that you ask for a listing of equipment that the photography school offers to their students as well as a listing of equipment that you need to buy. This will aid you in determining the total cost of your education.

Hopefully, these recommendations will help you build your list of investigation questions so that you can make a wise and well educated decision. Choosing the right school is just as important as having a good view of where you want to go. And the right school is the best way to help you get there.

To Your Success as a Professional Photographer!

   Enjoy!
Tip 1 - Use All Your Available Space

Don't be afraid to use all the space in your photo. If you want to take a picture of something, it's ok for it to take up the whole shot with no or very little background showing. Keep distractions out of your shot

Tip 2 - Study Forms

This is a vital aspect to photography. Understanding forms in your photos. Don't see an object, she its shape and its form and find the best angle to photograph it from. Form is all around us and I highly suggest you read as many books on it as possible.

Tip 3 - Motion In Your Photos

Never have motion in your photos if you are photographing a still object. If there is something moving while you are trying to photograph a stationery object, your photo won't turn out anywhere near as well. Also never put a horizon line in the center of your frame.

Tip 4 - Learn To Use Contrasts Between Colors.

Some of the best photos have shades of white, gray and black. You can take great shots with just one color on your subject, but the contrasts between colors in a shot is what makes you a great photographer.

Tip 5 - Get Closer To Your Subject

This is one of the biggest mistakes most photographers make, not getting close enough to their subject. Get up and personal and close the distance gap. You can always reshape and resize a good shot but you can't continue to blowup a distant object.

Tip 6 - Shutter Lag

Shooting action shots with digital camera's can be tricky due to shutter lags. What this means is, when you press the button to take the photo, it can take up to a second for the shutter to take a photo, by that time what you were photographing would have moved or changed somehow. This means you have to compensate for shutter lag by predicting what your subject is going to do and taking the photo just before it takes the action you want. More expensive digital cameras don't have this problem.

Tip 7 - Pan

If you are taking an action shot and your shutter speed is slow, pan with the object. Follow through with the subject, from start to finish and one of those shots will be a winner. You have more chance of getting a good shot if you take more then one photo.

Tip 8 - Continuous Shots

To pan like I suggested above you will need a camera that does continuous shots and doesn’t need to stop and process after every shot.

Tip 9 - How To Take Fantastic Night Time Shots

Night time shots can be spectacular, almost magical.... if done right! If not they can look horrible. Really horrible. Without adequate lighting, even good camera's can turn out crappy photos if the photographer doesn't know what he or she is doing.

Tip 10 - Study Your Manual

If your digital camera has a special night time mode, read the manual and follow their instructions on how to use it properly.
