Family Portraits – How To Shoot
The best shots we have with our family are those shot when we least know it and during joyful moments. And we probably already have a lot of them as it is easy to take with our digital cameras and camera handsets. As much fun it is to do so, perhaps it is time that we take a little more official to show the next generation. What we require this time is a professionally taken family portrait.
The subsequent generation will benefit from the family photograph as much as we will. As the supreme family remembrance, it is a little that will tell the children of our children their family history. It is a celebration of our milestones as family. Each candle we blow on our cake and every member born is deserving of a family portrait. It's also a tradition. We may have a lot of family photos already, but we also need family portraits with a more professional treatment.
Every family photograph of course involves the entire family. And with every typical family, kids are always present. children will always act as children so it is almost guaranteed that the photo take won't stop in just a few minutes. Sitting still for a couple of minutes isn't their forte. Make certain that you have adequate candies and toys to induce them into behaving. Make them relaxed as much as possible too. This is also true for the senior family members. The warmth from the photographer's lights or, if the photo take takes place outdoors, from the sunlight can wear them down. Take their medicines as a precautionary measure and assign a room or shade area for them to relax.
You can have an al fresco photo or you can take it indoors. Talk about where you would like to hold it with your family. Go for the most popular suggestion. Vote on the choices if you must so everyone will feel involved. Just avoid taking it with a famous landmark as backgrounds because the attention of the photo will switch to the background. Traditional family photographs are usually very formal, although you could make it fun and have a theme like all-red motif or mafia-themed shot where everybody wears mafia-like suits and attires. Then inform your photographer what your family selected and let him lead the show from then on.
Even though we all want to show perfect smiles in the photo, accept the fact that not everyone will smile like Barbie and Ken. Some might smirk, whereas others might decline to smile at all. And that's just all right because even though we want to incorporate a little formality in the picture, we also want to show each one's character. Nothing is sadder than a family portrait featuring members with false smiles.
